Lil Bo's Deli

Our first building of the month nomination goes to new business Lil Bo’s in Mill Lane Mews (2 & 4) an attractive store selling unique food and drink items in a rustic surrounding.

The shop was a former tea room and dry cleaners (knocked into one premises) and has been sympathetically transformed into a café, restaurant, deli kitchen, bar and gallery featuring local artists.

In the past this building has also been used for candle makers and tallow chandler’s shop.

Lil and Bo’s owners Steve and Deborah Evens opened the business in November 2023 and named the venture after their children Lily (Lil) and Harrison (Bo) Mr Ken Ward, Chair of Ashby Civic Society said ‘We were impressed with the attention to detail and the retention of many original features including the old candle hooks, exposed brickwork, stable door and ceiling beams.

The buildings in Mill Lane Mews was awarded the Europa Nostra Diploma of Merit in 1979 for the skilful restoration of these 18th Century buildings in the late 70’s and their adaption for use as shops.

The sites former use was stables, workshops and housing and the restoration project was led mainly by Mr Clive Jones.
